RELIGIOUS
FORMATION (Children)
St. Raphael offers an excellent Religious Education Program with classes and
experiences for all children of the parish from 3 years of age through High
School.
The Religious Formation focus is: learning, loving, and
living as Jesus showed us. It is our mission to assist families through these
critical formation years. Sacramental years are special, but it is vitally
important for young people to have opportunities to learn and understand their
Faith on deeper levels as they mature. It is essential to have a group of
peers, with whom they feel safe and comfortable discussing their questions and
beliefs.
The Catechist helps lead them to Jesus and become closer to
Him by presenting approved lessons, guiding discussion, facilitating prayer, and
furnishing Catholic answers. We help you teach your young people to follow
Jesus through prayer, Sacred Scripture, Catholic Tradition, faith sharing,
music, and modeling "Jesus Way". Our young people need to hear what Jesus
teaches from as many sources as possible.
The text book series currently in use, for the elementary
grades, is Faith First, approved by the Archdiocese of Detroit, in
conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church, published by Resources for
Christian Living (RCL).
The four areas of Doctrine, Scripture, Catholic tradition, Saints, and
Liturgical Seasons are thoroughly covered. We catechize following the
directives of the National Directory for Catechesis and the General
Directory for Catechesis.
There is a year round Christian Service Program in place
to allow and encourage children and their families to plan to offer “helping
hands” to those in need whenever they are able.
Grades K-8 meet on Monday
evenings from 6:00 until 7:15 p.m.
Vacation Bible School yearly, during the last full week of June.
